Sending announcements
An announcement sends one notice to many people at once — “water will be shut off tomorrow”, “the parking lot gets repaved Monday”, “office closed for the holiday”. Instead of messaging each tenant one by one, you pick who it’s for, write it once, and Habitia delivers it everywhere: into each recipient’s message thread, as an in-app notification (and push, where enabled), and as an email.
Because it lands in the message thread, the announcement becomes part of the lease’s permanent record — and tenants can reply right there, which reaches you like any normal message.
Sending one
Open Announcements in the sidebar (admins and managers), then:
- Pick who it’s for. All tenants, tenants of one property, tenants of one building, tenants of specific units — or all owners / owners of one property. The form shows a live count of how many people the announcement will reach before you send.
- Subject (optional). A short headline like “Scheduled water shutoff”. It becomes the email subject line, the notification title, and the bold first line in the thread. Left blank, recipients see “Announcement from your company name”.
- Write the message — in English, Spanish, or both. If you write both, each recipient automatically gets the language they use the portal in, and falls back to the other if you only wrote one.
- Attach files (optional). Up to 5 images or PDFs, 10 MB each — a notice letter, a photo of the affected area, a map. Recipients open them from the message thread; emails list the file names and point to the portal.
- Send. You’ll confirm the recipient count first. Emails go out within about a minute.
What recipients see
- Tenants: the announcement appears in their Messages thread with an “Announcement” badge, they get a notification, and an email with the full text.
- Owners: same, in their owner-portal Messages thread.
- Every tenant on a lease is included — co-tenants too.
History
The Announcements page keeps a log of everything sent: who it targeted, the text, and delivery counts (recipients reached, emails sent). Viewers can see the history but only admins and managers can send.
Announcements are one-to-many notices. For a conversation with one tenant, use the lease’s Messages tab — see Messaging your property manager.
